Tupac Amaru’s Last Stand 1572

On June 23, 1572, the last Inca emperor, Tupac Amaru, retreated from the Inca city of Vilcabamba, Peru, the last stronghold of the Inca empire.  The Incans had been fighting for their sovereignty across South America since the Spanish invasion in 1524, and Vilcabamba was the site of their final battle.  Tupac Amaru managed to elude the pursuing Spanish conquistadors for several more days.  His wife was about to give birth, and her condition slowed their escape.  Tupac Amaru was captured and sent to Cusco, Peru, where he was executed by the Spanish.
El 23 de junio de 1572, el último emperador inca, Tupac Amaru, se retiraron de la ciudad Inca de Vilcabamba, Perú, el último bastión del imperio Inca. Los incas habían estado luchando por su soberanía a través de América del Sur desde la invasión española en 1524, y Vilcabamba fue el escenario de la batalla final.
