Hernan Cortes and the Aztec Empire, 1519

On February 15, 1519, Hernan Cortes de Monroy y Pizarro departed from Cuba to invade Mexico.  Unfortunately for the Mexicans, his invasion led to the downfall of the Aztec empire.  The Spanish expedition carried diseases along with their weapons, particularly smallpox, which decimated the population.  Cortes landed in Veracruz, Mexico, where he allied himself with enemies of the Aztecs and began his march inland to Tenochtitlan and the home of the Emperor Moctezuma II.
El 15 de febrero de 1519, Hernán Cortés de Monroy y Pizarro salió de Cuba para invadir México. Por desgracia para los mexicanos, su invasión condujo a la caída del imperio azteca. La expedición de españoles portadores de enfermedades, junto con sus armas, especialmente la viruela, que diezmaron la población. Cortés desembarcó en Veracruz, México, donde se alió con los enemigos de los aztecas y comenzó su marcha hacia el interior de Tenochtitlan y el hogar del emperador Moctezuma II.
