Diana Garcia Prichard, Scientist and Educator

Happy Birthday to scientist and education activist Diana Garcia Prichard, born in San Francisco, California on October 27, 1949.  Prichard’s mother was an immigrant from Nicaragua and her father was a Texan of Mexican and Native American heritage. After raising her two children, Prichard returned to school, earning a BS in chemistry/ physics at California State University at Hayward and an MS and Ph D in chemical physics at the University of Rochester.  Prichard founded the program “Partnership in Education” that provides Latino role models to teach science and math to limited English proficient students. She served as a national board member of the Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE).
Feliz cumpleaños a la científica y activista de la educación Diana García Prichard, nacida en San Francisco, California el 27 de octubre de 1949. La madre de Prichard era una inmigrante de Nicaragua y su padre era un tejano de ascendencia mexicana y nativa americana. Después de criar a sus dos hijos, Prichard regresó a la escuela, obteniendo una licenciatura en química / física en la Universidad Estatal de California en Hayward y una maestría y un doctorado en física química en la Universidad de Rochester. Prichard fundó el programa “Partnership in Education” que proporciona modelos latinos para enseñar ciencias y matemáticas a estudiantes con dominio limitado del inglés. Fue miembro de la junta nacional de la Sociedad de Ingenieros Profesionales Hispanos (SHPE).
