Pancha Carrasco, Woman Warrior 1826
Costa Rican military heroine Pancha Carrasco was born on April 8, 1826. Armed with a loaded rifle and an apron full of bullets, she joined her countrymen at the Battle of Rivas in 1856. Carrasco defended Costa Rica against William Walker, the terrorist invader from the North. Walker was trying to establish a slave holding territory within the Costa Rican nation. Carrasco is an honored person in Costa Rican history, with a postage stamp and Costa Rican Coast Guard vessel named in her honor.
Militar heroína Pancha Carrasco nació el 8 de abril de 1826 en Costa Rica. Armado con un rifle cargado y un delantal lleno de balas, se unió a sus compatriotas en la Batalla de Rivas en 1856. Carrasco defendió Costa Rica contra William Walker, el invasor terrorista del Norte. Walker estaba tratando de establecer un territorio esclavista dentro de la nación costarricense. Carrasco es una persona de honor en la historia de Costa Rica, con un sello de correos y Costa Rica barco de la Guardia Costera nombrado en su honor.
