“The House of the Spirits” 1993

The film, “The House of the Spirits”, based on the classic novel of the same name by Chilean writer Isabel Allende, premiered in Germany on October 17, 1993.  The film is the story of a complex Chilean family during the rise of the military dictatorship in Chile.  English actor Jeremy Irons stars as the family patriarch, with American actors Meryl Streep as his wife with psychic powers and Winona Rider as their rebellious politico daughter. Among the talented leading cast, Antonio Banderas was apparently the only actor available for casting as a Latinx.
La película, “La Casa de los Espíritus”, basada en la novela clásica del mismo nombre de la escritora chilena Isabel Allende, se estrenó en Alemania el 17 de octubre de 1993. La película es la historia de una compleja familia chilena durante el auge de la dictadura militar en Chile. El actor inglés Jeremy Irons interpreta al patriarca de la familia, con los actores estadounidenses Meryl Streep como su esposa con poderes psíquicos y Winona Rider como su rebelde hija política.
