Happy Birthday to Roque Cordero, Musician 1917

Roque Cordero, famed composer and conductor, was born in Panama City, Panama on August 16, 1917. Cordero was educated at the University of Minnesota in the US.  He was a guest conductor on stages in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Panama, Spain, and the US. Cordero received numerous awards for his work, including a Guggenheim fellowship. He was a professor at the Illinois State University and Indiana University; the Latin American Music Center at the latter university holds a collection of his work.
Roque Cordero, afamado compositor y director, nació en la Ciudad de Panamá, Panamá el 16 de agosto de 1917. Cordero se educó en la Universidad de Minnesota. Fue director invitado en escenarios de Argentina, Brasil, Colombia, Chile, Panamá, España y Estados Unidos. Cordero recibió numerosos premios por su trabajo, incluida una beca Guggenheim. Fue profesor en la Universidad Estatal de Illinois y la Universidad de Indiana; el Centro de Música Latinoamericana de esta última universidad tiene una colección de su trabajo.
