33 Chilean Miners Rescued 2010

To jubilant cheers and heartfelt tears, the horrific mine accident crisis in Copiapó, Chile came to a happy conclusion as the last of 33 miners resurfaced from deep in the earth. The 33 men were trapped for 69 days, over 2300 feet underground and about 3 miles from the entrance to the mine. As the world watched the dramatic rescue, mining specialists from around the globe rushed to assist the Chilean government and mining community.  The nation was determined to bring home their men.  The Chilean miners were commended for their organization, leadership, and high morale throughout the terrible ordeal.  One of the leaders, Mario Sepulveda (nicknamed “Super Mario”) said in an interview, “The only thought that kept going through my head was that I didn’t want to die before my children had an education. Entre vítores y lágrimas, la terrible crisis del accidente minero en Copiapó, Chile llegó a una feliz conclusión cuando el último de los 33 mineros resurgió de las profundidades de la tierra. Los 33 hombres quedaron atrapados durante 69 días, a más de 700 metros bajo tierra ya unas 3 millas de la entrada a la mina. Mientras el mundo observaba el dramático rescate, especialistas en minería de todo el mundo se apresuraron a ayudar al gobierno chileno y a la comunidad minera. La nación estaba decidida a traer a casa a sus hombres. Los mineros chilenos fueron elogiados por su organización, liderazgo y alta moral durante la terrible experiencia. Uno de los líderes, Mario Sepúlveda (apodado “Super Mario”) dijo en una entrevista: “El único pensamiento que me pasaba por la cabeza era que no quería morir antes de que mis hijos tuvieran una educación.
