Agonized screams filled the streets of Santiago, Chile, as protestors Rodrigo Rojas de Negri and Carmen Gloria Quintana were burnt alive during a street demonstration against the dictatorship of General Augusto Pinochet.  Rojas’ mother was a political exile, and he had lived in the US and attended Woodrow Wilson High School.  Quintana was an engineering student at the University of Santiago.  The two were beaten by the military police, doused with gasoline, and left to die on July 2, 1986.  Quintana survived.   Pinochet had come to power in Chile through a military coup backed by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).  In 1993 the Chilean Supreme Court sentenced the lead military officer in the assault to about 2 years in prison for the death of Rojas DeNegri and the serious burns sustained by Quintana. Gritos de agonía llenaron las calles de Santiago, Chile, cuando los manifestantes Rodrigo Rojas de Negri y Carmen Gloria Quintana fueron quemados vivos durante una manifestación callejera contra la dictadura del general Augusto Pinochet. La madre de Rojas era un exiliado político, él había vivido en los Estados Unidos y asistió a Woodrow Wilson High School. Quintana era estudiante de ingeniería en la Universidad de Santiago. Los dos fueron golpeados por la policía militar, rociados con gasolina y abandonados para que murieran. Quintana sobrevivió. Pinochet había llegado al poder en Chile a través de un golpe militar respaldado por la Agencia Central de Inteligencia de Estados Unidos (CIA). En 1993, la Corte Suprema de Chile condenó al oficial militar principal en el asalto a unos 2 años de prisión por la muerte de Rojas DeNegri y las graves quemaduras sufridas por Quintana.
